Dr. Nanda is a great professor that can expertly communicate math concepts while still being engaging and even funny.
The course was exciting and well lead by professor Nanda . He definitely made it as interesting and applicable to real world problems as possible . The whole class would agree that professor nanda was nothing short of brilliant.
Great instructor and good, but tough, introductory calculus class.
Dr. V is a very interesting person and a brilliant mathematician, yet a not-so-great professor. We had to watch a half hour of videos on coursera before each class, and then would only do problems in class. I personally do not learn well from this "flipped classroom" (and if I'm paying for a Penn professor to teach me, and it has been proven that people learn much less from a video than from live interaction, why would a Penn professor direct me to a video to learn?). As a person, Dr. V is very charismatic, but as a professor, he is lacking.
The course itself is very challenging if you do not have a strong background in calculus. It is very fast paced and the professor is oriented towards covering the material quickly. In some cases, it feels as though material has not been covered in depth enough to answer the questions given on the exams. The exams are challenging. The course is much more difficult than non-engineering sections of the same course.
Professor Nanda was without a doubt the best math instructor that I have ever experience. Professor Nanda always kept students engaged by challenging us and demanding a higher level of understanding. What made Nanda exceptionally great was his ability to understand how students were struggling, the source of the issues, and adapt his lessons and resources to make sure students succeeded. Additionally, Professor Nanda provided great lectures. Students around me, and myself included, were genuinely excited to attend our 9am lecture which is essentially unheard of. It is my understanding that Professor Nanda will not be teaching at Penn after this semester. This is truly saddening and a great loss to the Penn faculty.
I found the course hard because of gaps in knowledge.
Dr. Nanda definitely cared for his students and took them into consideration. He has a very good grasp of the material and was very approachable. He definitely made us laugh in class, which made it more enjoyable. Although the material was difficult at times, by the end of the class I feel that I have learned a lot.
Dr. Nanda is the greatest person I have met at Penn. His antics and method of teaching always kept us laughing, while simultaneously reinforcing the Calculus we need for success as engineers. I am sad to hear that this is his last class he is teaching at Penn. Other Math 104 courses should be taught on par with the engineering section, as our availability of help from peers was very minimal due to the high caliber of concepts in comparison to general 104 classes.
Penn should have gave him full time professor position. Easily top instructor at Penn.
Dr. Nanda is an excellent, dedicated, efficient and stimulating professor. Very stimulating. Oh so stimulating. Seriously, a very useful class where I learnt a lot and my interests were peaked. Excellent stuff. P.S. Who even cares about grades anymore?
Dr. Nanda is the best professor I've ever had for the fall. He is able to explain the material comprehensively and is very willing to help in class and during office hours. He is also friendly and welcoming of all students. I give him 100% in everything and wish him the best in the future.
Dr. Nanda was fantastic - his departure will be a true loss for Penn
Professor kept lectures interesting and made it easy to access his notes, old quizzes, and old exams. A little more homework may have been helpful in terms of exam preparation.
Amazing professor
If I could change one thing about this course, I would take out Ghrist's videos, because I think Dr. Nanda could more effectively teach the subjects in lecture.
THIS WAS THE BEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. Not because of the subject matter, but because Dr. Nanda, throughout my 12 years of education filled with fantastic teachers, tops the list. He was funny, engaging, intelligent. He knew the subject matter so well that he could explain it in many ways and was truly concerned about the well-being of his students. Despite being a math genius, he could relate and understand when we didn't understand something. Many professors here are so smart and the subject matter makes so much sense to them that they don't understand your not understanding. That was not the case with Dr. Nanda. I was EXCITED to go to his 9 o'clock class three days a week and I hate mornings. I learned exponentially more in this class than any of my others. And even though it was my hardest class and I put hours and hours into grappling with the material, it was still by far my favorite. I urge UPenn to keep Dr. Nanda here. I am aware that there are only a certain number of faculty positions but he is a must keep. He brought a totally new atmosphere to Penn for me and has inspired me to truly enjoy mathematics and even want to do research in the field. Please let him stay.
This class was very hard a big step up from my high school math which was AB Calc. Many students felt this class was difficult and much more difficult than other math 104 sections.
Professor Nanda never failed to make the course engaging and interesting. Always full of surprises and wit, he was a great and engaging professor. Definitely one of the best at Penn.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!
Dr.Vidit was just the best! I was never bored in any of his lectures for the whole semester, and he loved what he was teaching which made me love math even more. I would say he is an ideal professor.
Vidit Nanda is a great professor He maintains an extremely good relationship with all his students and understands exactly where and why they are having problems He is extremely good and communicating the subject material (and beyond at times!) and his was only class where I never saw a single person distracted
Best professor I have ever had. Conveyed the material so well, covered so many topics and made the class really interesting. Kept us excited and was just a great person. BEST EVER
taught extremely fast but that is because we are required to watch videos before class. getting caught up was my own responsibility. he was able to make students excited to take this class, despite it being a 9AM. relates math to real life everyday occurrences. please bring dr. nanda back!
Stimulating, good professor in every sense.
Great professor. Excellent class for somebody that did not take calculus in high school.
